Greedy Aunt Scammed Grandma on a ‘Family Vacation’ — Dumped Her in a Motel, But Karma Caught Up Fast

Family dynamics can get messy—but what my aunt Lori did crossed every line.

My grandmother Marilyn is the definition of selfless: always thoughtful, always generous. So when Lori proposed a “special family vacation” with just the two of them and her daughter Rachel, Grandma was thrilled. Lori played the loving daughter card perfectly, insisting they “make memories while they still can.”

Grandma, ever trusting, handed over $5,000 to fund the trip.

But when they arrived? Lori and Rachel checked into a luxury oceanfront resort, while Grandma was dumped at a grimy, bug-infested motel nearby.

She tried to make the best of it, believing there’d been a mix-up. But I quickly realized the truth: Lori had scammed her own mother, using Grandma’s money to pamper herself while leaving her in squalor.

That’s when I stepped in.

Using Lori’s own travel rewards account—linked to the payment Grandma used—I upgraded Grandma to the most expensive suite at the resort. I even charged the fancy dinner to Lori’s credit card.

Then I personally picked Grandma up from the motel and walked her, suitcase in hand, right past Lori and Rachel at their upscale dinner. The look on Lori’s face was priceless.

When confronted, she panicked. But Grandma stood up for herself, telling Lori she was done being taken advantage of.

That night, Grandma enjoyed five-star comfort and toasted to “the family who truly cares.”

And when the vacation ended? So did Lori’s free ride. Grandma cut her off—no more money, no more second chances
